Bournemouth — Nov 16th 2010
With three of our regulars elsewhere engaged the meeting was best described as compact. So was the presentation by Michael Corgan who gave an overview of five applications for Optical Character Recognition. Of the five it was only possible to show the three cheapest at work, namely in descending order of price and accuracy: Abbyy Fine Reader 10, Prizmo and Vuescan. The last adds OCR to it's scanner driver capabilities (which are huge and well…
Dorchester — Nov 9th 2010
John opened the meeting, and explained that we would be short of one speaker, who had been held up in the traffic.
We started with a presentation by Michael Corgan, who told us about Soho Organiser by Chronos.
This programme serves to replace Apple's Address Book, and iCal,, and Michael feels that it has a number of advantages over these programmes. It also adds a Journal. For example, it offers a tabbed…

This month's meeting was quite a lively affair. There were several queries raised in the general Q&A session with lengthy discussions meandering around wi-fi hotspots on a Touch and Nikon RAW format files. Shorter questions followed but it did mean we'd been going all but an hour before the presentation.
The presentation was how to set up a router and wireless network as recently given at other meetings. Discussion during…

Bournemouth — Oct 19th 2010
The attendance this month was presumably stimulated by excited anticipation of the Annual General Meeting, with a dozen members present.
Our Chairman, Mick Burrell presented his annual report outlining the activities of the four meeting venues, the general outlook for WAMUG and a look at the future. He didn’t quite achieve his target for this of seven ad a half minutes - but his report was certainly clear and concise. Lionel Ogden in…

Dorchester — Oct 12th 2010
The meeting was Introduced by John (who was present in person, previous attempts to have him chair the meeting virtually, having been unsuccessful).
18 members were, likewise, present in person.
Tom gave a talk on Picasa (and using it with its associated Cloud).
The way to access these wonders is to log in (via Google) and download the Picasa 3.8 application for the Mac. Photos can be uploaded, and arranged…

Not many of us present this month but those that were picked up a few tips from the talk about basic use of email, how to set up Mail and how to use signatures and rules.
Nobody had any real burning issues either so the question & answer session was a little subdued but it did mean that for once we could have an early night!…

Fareham — Sep 25th 2010
For the first presentation we were very grateful to Mick Burrell, Area Chairman, for standing in at the last minute who gave a detailed ground up presentation on the intricacies of the internet.
This was followed by a discussion amongst the attendees on what they were working on.
As we did not have the normal internet service George McInerney led us in linking all the computers together and sharing files through the open…

Bournemouth — Sep 21st 2010
There was a good attendance – a dozen people – to hear three presentations at Solutions.
The evening opened with a very clear and useful presentation by Mick Burrell in his inimitable style. He showed us how to get our web sites onto the internet, first giving a brief appreciation of the different methods of creating them. For those of us who want a simple site that can be easily put together, iWeb is perfectly…

Our first meeting of the new season began with attempts to connect with John in the South of France, using iChat, to formally open the proceedings. In the absence of adequate bandwidth (and therefore also of John) Mark opened the proceedings. 10 members were present.
Mark gave a talk summarising an article on the subject of setting up iChat http: //support.apple.com/kb/HT2515
Can talk, and show video, exchange files etc. iChat will also talk…

Salisbury — Aug 25th 2010
We discovered that a good number of the attendees were not regular users of the club web site so after making them stand in the corner for ten minutes, we had a quick run through of some of its features - posting new topics on Discussions, posting replies to those or adding comments to Meeting Blogs and also how to use bold, italic and links in postings.
We then went on to a brief…
