Wessex Apple Mac User Groups

General Information

Wessex Apple Mac User Groups (WAMUG) or ‘WAGs’ as we like to call ourselves is a friendly group of locally based Apple computer users, providing mutual support. Our aims are to keep Mac users in the Wessex area up to date on events and advancements on the Apple Macintosh Platform, and to help members get the best out of programs on the Mac.

Meetings are held at various venues throughout Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire. They are friendly and informal, and for all ages. Beginners and experts are equally welcome, to offer support, get help, or just chat! You will also discover a great deal about your Mac and we try to help with any problems. However, don't forget to bring your Mac along - it's hard to fix a problem if the kit isn't there!

Membership is only £20 for a years subscription, with no fee charged at meetings. You can turn up to one of our meetings to see what it's all about for £5 and if you join then and there you'll get a 25% discount. Everyone is welcome, whether novice or professional.

History

WAGs was formed on 14th March 2004 from the original DMUG (Dorset Mac User Group). This was because Mac Users from a far wider area than just Dorset were joining us, so it was decided we would give a far better service to our fellow enthusiasts by expanding, and that our new name should echo this.

Indeed, many DMUG members were at that time from adjacent counties, including two committee members, who lived in eastern Hampshire. Other west country counties, such as Cornwall and Devon, lacked any user group at that time too, so it was decided to expand.

After much consideration the name WAGs was chosen, representing Wessex Apple Macintosh User Groups. Wessex being a large area serving all the counties we wished to represent. The all important “s” on the end of the name, indicating that we would consist of smaller local area meeting groups, led by the main large group.
